An ambitious runner has received £100, from fish farm company Dawnfresh, to kick start fundraising on his campaign to raise £750 for Crohns Disease by completing a Three Lochs Way Cross-Country Ultramarathon, in April 2018.
Environmental and Fish Health Specialist at Dawnfresh’s Loch Etive farm, Jason Dobson, is taking on the mammoth challenge of completing a 34 mile (55km) cross country ultramarathon across the Three Lochs Way (part of the west highland way route) over Loch Lomond, Loch Long and Gareloch on 7th April, 2018.
The money raised by Jason will go to King’s College London to help in the research and development of a MAP Vaccine, for Chrons Disease. After 20 years of development the MAP Vaccine has recently passed phase 1 of trials and is moving on to phase 2 which in involves treating Crohn’s sufferers.
Over 300,000 people suffer from Chrons disease in the UK with 1 in 4 new diagnosed being under 16 years of age. It is estimated that every 30minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis and 80% of sufferers will need surgery at some point in their life.
Jason is encouraging anyone that can to please donate at his Just Giving Page (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jason-dobson-men9150)
Commenting on the campaign, Jason Dobson said:
“I’ve seen first-hand the devastating effects of Chrons Disease after a close family member was recently diagnosed. In the beginning I felt worthless as there is currently no cure for Crohns disease; however, during my research I found out about the King’s College London’s MAP Vaccine. That’s when I decided to raise money to help push the MAP vaccine through Phase 2 of trials in the hope that in the coming years it will be available for all Crohn’s sufferers. I mentioned at work that I was planning to take on the ultramarathon and was thrilled when Dawnfresh offered £100 to start of my challenge.”
Alison Hutchins, Farming Director for Dawnfresh, said:
“When I first heard about Jason’s challenge I have to admit I was more than a little impressed, in fact most of the team at Loch Etive are impressed by his ambition. I know this is a cause close to Jason’s heart and at Dawnfresh we wanted to show our support by kickstarting his fundraising with a £100 donation. I hope to see Jason reach his £750 overall target and cross that finish line in April.”
